How a geothermal heating and cooling system works

Tackle Global Warming and an unhappy bank manager in one go. And a cash grant to boot.

Temp above ground 1 degree

Temp 6 feet below is constantly 12 degrees. Fact

So, burying a customised  heat exchange loop as shown.

Pump water through it, and after several cycles, just like a conventional system, will heat the water to the required temperature.

It is estimated that for every KW of power used to drive the pump you will generate 4KW of free heating or cooling.

However it is claimed that as the heat will not reach the higher temperatures required to operate existing indoor radiators they will have to be replaced by specially designed radiators or using air ducts.

OR to preheat water before feeding to existing boiler, thus leaving present system intact

Geothermal heating is the next big thing in green living!  In 2009, less than just 1% of the world's homes use geothermal heat for heating.  Experts reckon that here in the UK were going to see a boom in geothermal heating in the next few years.  This is because hundreds of thousands of consumers will be urgently looking to avoid huge price rises of up to 60% in their fuel bills by 2016.  No doubt Government policy wants to 'encourage' people to go 'green', and making energy punishingly expensive is just one way to make us do that.

More and more homeowners are now looking at geothermal heating as a serious way to save lots of money, and add at least 15% value to their property at the same time.

You'll start to see a return on your money in just 10months. From that point on you'll be saving up to a massive 70% on your heating bills, not to mention being one of the greenest houses in your area!
